Hempcrete is a carbon-negative building material which locks more atmospheric carbon dioxide than it emits when producing it, processing it, transporting it and putting it into place all together. Hempcrete is a true long-term CO2 storage solution as it is fire resistant.
THE INSULATION SYSTEM THAT HAS ALL THE QUALITIES
HEMPCRETE IS DURABLE AND PERFORMANT
It's resistance to fire, compaction, vermin and humidity makes it the most durable insulating material of all. The hempcrete wall is air tight, has good thermal resistance, good thermal reflection, good thermal inertia and controls humidity.
HEMPCRETE IS COMFORT
A regulator wall is the secret of comfort. Hempcrete stores and redistributes thermal energy and humidity to create perfect comfort in any season. It creates a quiet and cozy environment and a soft atmosphere as it is a great soundproofing material.
HEMPCRETE IS FRIENDLY
Entirely natural, this carbon negative material is earth friendly, worker friendly and dwellers friendly. Hempcrete is a bio composite material that provides better energetic performance and reduces the environmental footprint of construction while improving indoor environmental quality.
HEMPCRETE IS BEAUTIFUL
We are free to reinvent shapes, angles, curves, colors and textures and bring more depth to old and new design currents.
FOR NEW BUILDS AND RENOVATIONS
A building’s outer shell can be built and completely insulated with hempcrete.
Hempcrete blocks are the pre-cast and pre-dried form of hempcrete. These blocks allow to save work and time on site since they can be assembled with minimal equipment and effort. This is the simple and efficient solution that can be used to build partitions or to insulate slabs and walls. Available in 3 different widths.
A large and light block of standardized dimensions is installed with great ease. A two-people team can quickly put up the walls of an entire house. The blocks are assembled using a thin coat of lime-based mortar glue spread on all sides. A week long dryind period is required before the finishing plasters.
CAST IN PLACE HEMPCRETE
The hempcrete is mixed and cast into formworks directly on site. Hempcrete is literally wrapped around the underlying framework, whatever its type, in order to create one solid mass. This construction method eliminates thermal bridging as well as thermal energy losses, creating one piece exempt of structural weaknesses. The quality of well casted hempcrete walls is faultless. The house’s walls are molded on site according to the desired shape or style (straight angles, contemporary lines, vaults, arches, rounded shapes).
Building a wall in three simple steps, inspired by the living: a wooden frame, a body of hempcrete and a lime plaster finish. In a rhythmic and harmonuous effort, the hempcrete is cast in the formwork to simultaneously raise all the buildings' walls. A team of seven share the preparation, handling, casting and formwork. A drying period of minimum two months separates the casting of hempcrete from applying the lime plasters.
The hemplaster is the most versatile and most spectacular material. It is an insulating, a soundproofing and a decorative coating. It has multiple purposes for new constructions and it is a first class material for ancient building restorations: ideal for insulating every type of ancestral houses. It can even be used both as an insulating and a rustic finishing plaster.
Mixing hemplaster feels a bit like mixing cake batter since it smells good and its natural off‑white and vanilla colour is a pleasure for the eyes. Applied with a trowel or with gloved hands, hemplaster dries slowly, taking on any shape the artisan pleases. It can be applied to wood lathing, stone or brick walls, hempcrete walls, and even to cement foundation walls. Once dry, the hemplaster will be completely solidified and will sound hollow when tapped.
Light Hempcrete is used as a loose insulating material. It is a natural and durable alternative to any filling type insulation such as roofing insulation or filling material in bulk.
The light hempcrete is just put into place and slightly packed. Drying time is about 2 weeks. Note that light hempcrete will not harden.
